Generating Diamond Powder Aerosols

GENERATING AEROSOLS FROM DIAMOND POWDER USING THE AEROSOLISER

The Aerosoliser uses a vibrating jet method to generate aerosols from a powdered material. This is a much gentler method than is used in other similar instruments and one of the main advantages is the very small amount of material required. The Aerosoliser has been used to generate aerosol from a small sample of powdered diamond (figure 9.1) manufactured by a European diamond supplier.

Diamond powders are used in a variety of industrial applications and there exists a requirement to be able to generate aerosol from the powdered material. Figure 9.2 shows a size distribution of aerosol particles generated using the Aerosoliser from a sample of diamond powder. The outlet of the Aerosoliser was connected to an SMPS to measure the particle size distribution. Only 300mg of material was consumed during the measurement process.
